Question for you guys and gals-- Is one place better than another to place a C02 Diffuser?

The reason I ask is that I recenty moved the diffuser from near the bottom of the tank to very close to the top. Reason being is that I am trying to avoid or minimize syphoning water back into my C02 tubing while the lights and C02 are off.

I tried a air pump check valve, but the cracking pressure of the check valve is too high for the rather low flow rate of the C02 system. It would never flow:cry:

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!!

you want it further down so that it can diffuse even more before it hits the top of the water. if you have it close to the top, you're just watching it being wasted as it floats up.

Thanks! That is what logic tells me. So, last night, I moved it back down near the bottom.

I guess I need to do some more internet reading about the subject, but curious if the C02 actually disolves (for the lack of a better term) into the water?

I ask this beacause the diffuser is on one side of tank and while the bubbles seem to spread out a lot, I dont see them reaching the other side of the tank where other plants are.. Maybe I am worrying too much about this??:screwy:

CO2 IS dissolved into the water. The best placement for your diffuser is low in the tank, preferably where the bubbles can be caught up in the current and moved around the tank. The key is this: more contact time = more CO2 dissolved.
