Hi!

I'm thinking of turn my 135 gallon (4x2x2 feet) tank into a american-style tank :D
You know, 1 fish of each species in the tank:P

Here in Sweden we almost always keep cihlids in pairs, but I would like to try to keep a couple of species in the same tank without any breeding.

So what do you suggest that I should keep?

Could I keep an jaguar, a RD, a GT and a Vieja in my tank? One way of holding down aggresion is to overcrowd the tank a bit, isn't it?

Yeah, Central American Cichlids and South American cichlids don't really pay much attention to the over crowded rule. With them, its larger tankz wit more space. Also, wit the fish you have, you might still get breeding...;). Central American cichlids are notorious for hybridizing. Go South American...kewler fish, generally less aggressive! Plus you can get Crenicichla!! WHAT MORE REASONS DO YOU NEED! :D

CA cichlids are in my opinion the bomb. i love them hence the name. you can overcrowd CA cichlids as well, but the numbers youd need would make it almost possible to house them as they are mostly larger fish. i would say you could go with the RD and an aggressive Vieja spp like a fenestratum. the GT would more than likely lose out and never show his true colors. i would go with all males. you put a female in and there will be war. no doubt about it. i would put a group of neets in there and leave out the Jag. the Rd should have his hands full with the neets if they are breeding(like they will no doubt in good quality water) and make sure your Vieja is a bit larger than the Rd and you should work out just fine. if you want more of the larger fish you WILL need a larger tank than 4ft.... this set up could work, or it could erupt into a killing spree, depends on the individual fish you posess. give it a try and see what happens. keep us posted with pics please!!!

I agree with leaving out the Rivaltus and it would depend on which Vieja you picked out and it's size when introduced.Much depends on the personality of the idividual fish and the amount of good hiding places provided. A Black Belt would make up a great trio if you could make it work.
