The sev is the one to look out for. It's too old to change its ways, and would more likely be the aggressor. If possible get the new cichlids and dithers first in the new tank. After your tank is cycled, introduce the sev.

The Sev appears timid - I've introduced ellioti's in the past. After a day or two of chasing and showing dominance, it lost interest and left them alone. But point taken and appreciate there is a risk element in introducing new tankmates.
Unfortunately I can't set up and run the new tank (with new fish) before introducing the sev. I'm taking the filters from the old tank so can't run both simultaneously. Hmmm, maybe I could take 1 of the 2 filters from the old to the new for a limited time (1-2 weeks) and do it that way.
hmmm, so maybe the vieja is the long term replacement for the sev then, but I could proceed with the rainbows.I've kept salvini with Vieja without any issues. IME they tend to ignore anything that's not comparable in size. I would expect the sev to get mauled when your vieja reaches a similar size.
