I've known livebearers do this before straight after a move .
I think it's the stress of being caught makes them drop early.
If your livebearers are holding babies for too long, placing them in darkness can help make them drop young.
Good to know. My other amecas are all still obese, I'm betting they all are holding fry. Not sure if I should catch them and cause them to drop, if the fry are going to be dead again... but this one that gave birth is the first time I have seen one "skinny" in my tank! Which would mean either they get pregnant again right away, or they have been holding those fry for months and months. Not sure which.

And, turns out the panamensis did not like the romantic solitude. The male became abusive. At first, I though it worked and the females egg tube was fully out, then he started beating on her and the next day she was hiding behind the heater. Divided them for a couple days and then removed it to try again, same result. Female even lost her pair coloration. The 20 might just be too small. So I dopped them back into the 80, and they have teamed up again.

That's a shame mate. Probably,as you say,the 20 is to small.
Oh well ,I'm sure they will do the business in the 80 eventually.

Hopefully! I might switch up the stock in there a little bit soon. Havent decided. But I think maybe the tamasopoensis is too close in size to the large panamensis. I might remove it and try and get a slightly larger fish, to be the undisputed boss, or a smaller one, then the panamensis would be boss. My only concern would be that if the panamensis was tank boss and started breeding, that nobody would be able to "put him in his place" and he would get too rough. Right now I think the tamasopo keeps him from beating on the other un-paired panamensis.
Just spitballing ideas right now, I might keep things how they are. Nobody is killing each other, that's all I can ask for in a CA community I guess hah

Love the cryptoheros. At one time i wanted to do an all male crypto tank.

Did they reclassify them something else ? Usually rapps/wetspot has them but didnt see any

Yup, they gave them their own genus "panamius". They split cryptoheros up into a few genus, most went to amatitlania.
I agree an all male crypto tank would be awesome. I think I actually have 3M 1F. if I'm not mistaken, based on coloration. Crappy ratio but it seems to work ok actually, the one female and dom male are a pair, and they chase the other 2 around equally.
