CA / SA breeding project

Lyonsi, Festae, Midas, and RTM's all sound really interesting. Of those, I guess it'd probably come down to which I could actually find. I've never actually SEEN RTM's in person, or available on any site.

I've also never come across Midas with the dark markings you mentioned Anchovie. I googled it, definitely makes a more unique fish. But is it a naturally occurring recessive trait that one might find in small numbers in from non-blotchy parents? Or would I need to find someone willing to part with at least one like this?

Leo - is a 90 large enough for breeding Festae? What size tanks do you use for breeding them?

Rich the Lyonsi are awesome, I had a friend who successfully bred a pair a few years back (when I was hooked on Victorians). Again though, I don't see too many of them available at more than an inch or two, and I'd like to find something within a few months of sexual maturity if possible.

Thanks so much for the suggestions and expertise!

The dark patches are the norm in the wild. Getting a midas that keeps its dark spots in private aquaria is the hard part. They just seem to fade to orange yellow and white when kept in an aquarium. The black patches are sought after by those of us who keep Midas, and add that to the fact that we have allowed them to interbreed with devils so freely that they are virtually indistinguishable, I think you could have a breeding program that is not only enjoyable, but potentially profitable. Also, the Midas and red devils deserve to be seperate species. If one kept both fish, one would know they are different personality. Sadly, you do not have enough room for a devil breeding program since males get too big.

looks like I'm going to try to do Midas and another - as I already located someone willing to sell a set of pure Midas adults for a very reasonable price.

I also have a post up looking for a pair of either Festae, Lyonsi, or RTM's in the for sale forum. If anyone has a male/female at near adult size - not necessarily proven - that they want to part with feel free to message me. Thanks again for all the help!

I breed my smaller pairs in 4 foot tanks or 4 feet sections in a 8foot tank. A 90 is plenty. Fry kinda grow slow so you would be able to gradually sell them off without having some huge fry killing each other. I'd breed in 60gal and use 90 as fry tank if I were you. I don't understand why people use small tanks for fry tanks, small tanks are breeder tanks and big tanks are fry tanks!

Here's my Festae fry tank, it's a 240 8x2x4, 120 on left is breeders tank:

There are many vendors you could buy from with very high quality fish. You could use the 60 for salvini breeding. Great colors and easy to sell
