ca/sa cichlid community tank idea opinions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
oh, i hadn't realized they got 2 foot a piece.. excuse my ignorance. i was just spitballing after all, some ca/sa cichlids were suggested to me in another stocking thread in the general forum so i figured id ask the experts what i could get away with. i only gravitated towards those two (umbee, dovii) because the seemed the most prevalent in the "most aggressive" sticky.. i suppose i could definitely do without them though. perhaps a couple of the others, my current 2' JD and maybe an equally small jag if i could swing it and a school of other smaller whatevers would be more my speed.. thanks for the information though

Instead of a Jag you might want to try a Parachromis friedrichsthalii or P. loisellei - they are in the same genus as Jags but max out at around 12". They are less aggressive than Jags, motas and dovii, but can hold their own and will be less likely to kill your JD in a 4' tank. You could also try ex-Cichlasoma salvini (see my avatar). They grow to about 6-7 inches, have attitude, and are usually not too difficult to find in stores. Convicts are a good option, and a single Herichthys carpintis would look great.
