Hey guys, just have a few things I would like some insight into...

I have a caiman in a 65 tank right now, hes pretty young/small has plenty of room. I got bored with the setup so now Im moving him into a 135 I have. Its all glass not drilled and Im looking to keep it nice and neat like that, dont want to mess with the tank.

I need to figure out a way to filter it. On the other tank I took a piece of plexiglass and cut it so it was just high enough to keep my filter off the bottom, sealed it off and hung the filter on the inside of the tank. Looks like one of those turtle tanks with the hole in the side, but inside the tank.

Anyways Im not sure if I want to do that same thing in this tank, I know I want a complete dry land part, so maybe something under that???

Just give me some suggestions if you guys can, thanx...

Canister filters work wonders.

I would too go for as much volume of filtration as possible. Get a strong pump that circles water into a big barrel filled with filter sponge or other material and back into the tank - that's it. Don't be shy to use a really big one, as soon as the caiman grows you will need it ;)

how high will the water be and how much room do you have for filteration? would you prefer something inside the tank instead of something outside? is noise a concern?

I actually used a pump i used to have for a return in my sump, and put it under a container I cut a whole in and filled with filter media. I did it inside the tank, cut a hole in the top of the container. Built rocks up around it, and now it looks like a real waterfall. Makes alot of noise, but im at college most of the time anyways so its ok.

Fill the tank 80% with water use large turtle dock and large floating turtle log then use a large FX5 canister filter make sure water level is no more than 7 in from the top of the tank. When he's to big for the large turtle dock then he's to large for your 135 gallon start thinking indoor pool or hot tub in he's own bed room !!!
Good luck !! use large screen topps as well babys will break through glass covers in no time ! And please don't ever feed him gold fish !

he is in a 65, and moving to a 135?
Am I the only one that sees this as a future problem....?

I am going to jumo in and say don't get something if you cannot house it or take care of it properly!

and go with a sump, to add my .02 to the thread...

I agree;) Crocs dont like change. Maybe it would be better to build him straigth away its bigger permanent diy home and get yourself some nice fish for the 135:D Or put him temporarily in the 135 to gain some time:confused: But even then it wont last for long
