All species in the family Potamotrygonidae, which includes three genera (Potamotrygon, Paratrygon and Plesiotrygon), are illegal in CA.

dont those asian rays get massive? that might not be a feasible option. im glad i dont have this problem but what would be the procedure to get a permit for you cali residents?

as far as i know, there are no hobbiest permits avaliable, a few of the asian rays get rather large, but theres a couple of species that only obtail about 15" in diameter, but about twice thre body length in tail length. im not really intrested in he asian rays, more in tying to find myself one of those african ones:naughty:

but i probably never will, theyrein bad shape enviromentaly. id be cool tho............a ray form afircfa and some polys, mormyrids, and an african knife, i can just see it now

Thanks for clarifying ;) I kind of figured that..

I'd just like to say california is STUPID. There is no way a ray could survive in these waters. Yeah sure we have tropical summers but our winters get quite cold. Plus if they are so sensitive to water quality that they die in aquariums...ARENT THEY LIKELY TO DIE IN LAKES OR STREAMS?!!! I hate this state. It has a lot of cool stuff but you cant have cool rays and you cant smoke cigs in certain areas and soon this place will push me to drink to much.
