for me, its a bit price, a bit the shipping. The only way I would pay the price I would prefer per fish (including shipping) is to purchase six, and I don't want six, I only want one or two, and I want females. Not sure you can tell at this size, right?

Thats why I'm hesitating.

And I don't want to have to resell them either.

I'm not understanding you guys about the color of my typing - it's black. Maybe you're thinking of Ray777's signature - it's yellow. Unless maybe you're using a dark skin. I personally never use the dark skins because most folks type in black and you can't see it. So, if it's the dark skin, you can just go to the bottom of the page and change it to the light skin and everyone's black text will then show up. Not sure otherwise. What color text SHOULD I be typing in??

Price: there's only $1 difference per fish in 1 fish vs 6 fish. But no, I definitely can't sex them at this size. I think they'd have to be closer to 2.5" to sex wouldn't they? I can't remember with their parents when I could tell who was who... I wish I could help out with the other "negative factors".

Price drop - my shipping assistant (hubby) will be leaving town for an extended trip - and honest to Pete, I cannot get the darned rubber bands tight enough to ship. SO I want to get my tanks really low on the little rascals so I don't have *&%#load of them by the time he returns.

New prices: $5.00 each or 10 for $35 (that's 3 free ones)! Shipping rates listed previously still apply. I can ship "cheap and slow" and still have your fish arrive alive and kickin - that's one thing in life that I can actually claim that I do well.

Are you guaranteeing live arrival? If so, then that would help.

PS, the automatic color is different for each skin, and is automatically changed for the skin each member uses. When you change your color, then it is the same color no matter what the skin is.

I'll go $25 for 6 of them. Live arrival? Do you know ANYONE who does that for a priority mail shipping option?? But seriously, I've shipped over 200 fish with Priority, and have lost less than 15 fish. I don't think live arrival is a serious concern. I've got a guy who's using priority for a $200+ order of fish and he's never even asked about live arrival. I can't guarantee on priority, but you got a 92.5% positive chance for live arrival (15 dead, max - with over 200 shipped...). Not too many folks can have fish survive a 4 day delivery (very frequent) or my one time coo - a SIX day live arrival. I take great care with my fish I ship and treat them as I would want to be treated if I were a fish! Hope that helps take some of the worry away...

i think you can get them at a local fish store at that size for $3-$4 each. i still have some myself for $2.50 each if you get 10. you're selling them 6 for $30 im selling them 10 for $25. i only have about 20 left though

Well that was about as rude as a person can be! Lots of time I have something for sale for a lesser price than someone else does - but I DON'T GET ON THEIR THREAD AND UNDERCUT THEM!! Can you ship priority mail and have a shipment take SIX days and still have the fish arrive perfectly fine!? Besides, you obviously didn't read the post just before your rude threadjacking post, my price was lower than it used to be. GEESH

That kind of undercutting thread jacking behaviour should get a person banned from the marketplace classifieds totally

No offense, but they look like brown bristlenose. There are several countless types of brown bristlenose with different patterns and brown coloration. True Red Marble calico's look like this:

The red coloration is distinct on them. With brown pleco's usually prices are 1-1.5 for $3/each. Majority of people who ship bristlenose around the country guarantee live arrival guarantee with priority shipping. I have shipped close to 1,000 bristlenose type plecos over the past few years, rarely do they arrive DOA, very hardy species. This past year, i began shipping exotic fancy plecos priority mail offering live arrival guarantee, no problems thus far *knock on wood* but IMO people don't give plecos enough credit, IMO/IME plecos are more hardy of fish to ship then any other fish out there. I have shipped tons of different kinds of fish, plecos have found to be easiest.

I hope this helps, gives some insight, if would like some priority mail guarantee info, on how i do it, just pm me, be happy to share how i prep them for shipment. Plecos can take the high heat of the summer better then any other fish out there.

Silversurfer - thanks for the kind offer of help. I do know exactly what the "real" calico's look like - their dad looks like your pic (except that mine are reg fin). Mom looks like that too (if mom is the calico and not the albino - see page 1 for more on this). I also know very well how to ship. Most of my shipments of ANY kind of fish take minimum of 3 days up to a max of 6 days (only once so far) - but in each case, all are fine. I have had a few fatalities over the course of my shipping "career", but out of well over 200 fish shipped, less than 15 have died - and none of them plecos (only cichlids). I "could" give live arrival guarantee, but "industry standards" call for live arrival only for express mail. I can make exceptions based on the number of fish ordered, where they're going, etc...

Now about my little plecos - no, I'm not offended (baffled by their genetics, but not offended). As the original post states, dad is a nice looking calico, and mom may be calico or albino - so I'm baffled as to why they don't look like either parent. However they do have some good calico genes, and if paired up with some "better looking calicos", should throw off some nice looking calico babies (at least that's my understanding of the genes).

So if they were indeed browns (instead of just looking like they are), then they would be cheaper. But since they are calicos (albeit throwbacks in the way they look), they are worth the $4 asked for them. I've had no trouble on other forums finding folks who want them. Not everyone is a breeder - most folks are like I was when I started - just wanting some AWESOME algae eaters that are cute, efficient, and inexpensive. If breeding happens, that's fine with them, but not their main goal.

I really appreciate the offer for help though. It was a generous offer and not taken lightly. So folks if you just want some cute algae eaters that have good genes even though they don't look like a "pedigreed" calico - these are the guys for you. Kind of reminds me of the kids of drop dead gorgeous couples who turn out to be "less than beautiful" - they still got great genes and their kids will probably be beautiful
