got a couple big emps and little acs. maintenance on the emp is a pain compared to the ac. spray bars always clogs up at some point. the emps arent that loud though.

i figure so long as you got enough filtration, emp/ac is a toss up.

Aquaclear pros : Lots of choices of media and many options on how to stack it in tray
cons : noisy, cheap plastic, stupid lid always rattles, plastic cracks easy, lots of bypass

Marineland (emp) pros : Non-biowheel ones are VERY quiet, decent filtration
cons : not as good media to choose from, not as many options.

the only thing better then an aqua clear is a wet/dry filtration system...IMO.....
