No, they are not. I forget the correct insect though.

Midges are without doubt the most annoying insect on the planet. Many an evening when I used to go fishing at dusk they would eat me alive. And if I ever forgot my insect repellent then i'd usually just have to pack up defeated.

But as annoying as they are they do give us bloodworm, although they should only be fed as a treat once in a while, and not form the major part of your fishes diet as they are pretty much devoid of nutrients.

Chironomid midge larvae usually :) . Definitely not mosquito larvae.

Mosquito larvae tend to float more at the surface, while chironomid midge larvae (bloodworms) I believe are more benthic.

Trust me you dont want to use live ones and have them become flying insects in your house that included the mosquito variety too. ? I did this when I was in college by accident forgetting mosquito larvae in a gallon jar

Well there are proper bloodworms, which are a type of annelid worm, like what you would bait a hook with when fishing. Then there are the aforementioned midge larvae which are sold frozen in Lfs as "bloodworms" and fed to your fish.
