The word rodent means "to gnaw" and that's the reason why their teeth are shaped like chisels. Teeth in the rodent family grow their entire life. If they didn't gnaw on things, they'd grow long, pointed and spiral shape.

There's a bunch of photos on google of rodents that have teeth issues. Their teeth look just like the one you found.

I totally agree. Rodent teeth also contain more enamel on the front surface and more dentin on the inner surface to fascilitate the formation of their "chisels." The picture shows these two different make-ups pretty clearly.
 
looks similar to dog a toe nail I had the vet cut the other day,might have gotten caught on something and ripped off.It was the one that was high on her paw and never got scraped on the ground,It curled just like the picture but was a little smaller
