Hey all on friday I'm getting this guy. The problem is he has shell rot but the owner told me that he is almost healed, the white spot on him is where it was the worst. Right now he is treating with just salt and high temp. How far is he really to recovery, this guy seem to know what he is doing though but I just want some other opinions also. I'm getting this turtle no matter what but I though when I get him should I continue to treat him with just salt and a high temp? Or is there altenatives. This FRT eats well and is active so I've been told, I'm also will be given his main diet of food with him so not to stress him out anymore. I will be putting him in my main tank but first he will go in a tank buy himself for a month or so. I'm hoping to have his shell fixed by then. Also what can you guys also tell him about this turtle? Not info b/c I've done lots of research and even bought a book, I just want to know if he is underweight etc...all in all I want to know what you think about this said turtle. He here is then:

We need pics of his eyes and underside to make a better judgement please....

Terramycin and Acriflavine.......If you can find either.......And I really hope your not paying for the thing.......

One thing to live by when keeping Turtles is Shell Rot is never "Almost Healed".........It either is or it isn't.......

Thanks good to know. I'm just waiting for him to send my a belly shot.

SO....
This question does not need a picture: Like I stated before he is treating with salt and high temp. Should I keep on doing this or something else? I read that I could switch over to useing pimafix. Good? Bad? If so should I continue to treat with pimafix and still use the salt? Finally how often do you recomend I treat the turtle with the salt or whatever? At a water change?every other day?etc....

Your buying a defective Turtle that could very well keel on you......Salt and Pimafix isn't going to do anything.......Shell Rot doesn't have degrees. The animal either has it or not, or is cured or not. In this instance, it has it, and it isn't cured.......Red Flags anyone?

I might be wrong but i read somewhere that sunlight and iodine does wonders for shell rot....don't quote me on that. As long as you understand buying a sick turtle is risky...buy it. If your not willing to gamble on it...walk away.

Can anyone back this up? Does anyone know for sure?
