CALLING ALL SNAPPERS!!!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
seen two 2 footers in my lifetime while fishing, they are amazing, sadly lots of my family members have a taste for snappers, i try to never tell any of them about seeing any because i don't want them eaten!

there was a 26" common at a boyscout camp i went to in georgia.

i was saying 16" as i commonly see 16"ers and only the few 2'ers. Ive seen some absolute monsters in my pond and i always see monster snappers crossing the roads to go lay eggs or find a mate. Sadly alot of these giants get ran over. ive seen some 15+ pounders exploded all over the road the size of a small deer. I was saying 16 as an estimate. But now that i think about it that was off.

Men arguing about how big it is, this is good :P I think 16" is a good bench mark. I agree that some specimens grow a lot larger, males larger then females, but are probably very old animals at that.

Oh sorry I didnt want to seem like I was arguing but I can see the point they are making.

In the wild I have witnessed many times where snapping turtle come out to bask. This behavior can be rare. In captivity most people do not give there snapping turtle a place to dry off, I personally think it needs to be mandatory for all turtles.

Thx

I get 20" wide turtles out here all day long. 24" are not uncommon with some even bigger. In captive conditions it should get to the 20" mark at least.

We will harvest a few a year. One lake I go to is just about over crowded with 20" turtles. I bowfish that lake and I'll see 10 a day at times on less then 1/2mile shore alone. For large snappers that is crowded.
