Calling all VATF and TATF keepers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dude I'd kill to be able to get decent pics without having to break out the Nikon. Maybe then I'd actually update one of my threads! :D[/QUOTE]

Even with a dslr, I find these guys super hard to shoot. My tank had pretty heavy flow so he was moving around all the time. Plus the light refraction off the glass. Photographers nightmare!

I'm just using my iPhone, lol. I'll definitely try again later this evening with the flash. I'm nowhere close to being a photographer, lol. Both my TATF and VATF are almost impossible to get a good pic of.

Yea that's what I do I have an iPhone as well. I use the flash with the phone right up on the glass. Thing is the fish had to be still.

Easier said than done with our tooth torpedos
That's why I added that last bit lol so he knows it'll be difficult. My odoe and gold wolf are like that so what I do is stay there with it still against the glass and just wait for them to settle down eventually and they'll come close

Even with the good camera that's still more or less what it takes

How bout I do one better......

Pretty sure I still have one on ice here. My largest, most prized fish I've EVER raised.....

Rob, I'll double check to see if he's still around. You want me to send him to you IF he is? IF so tell me HOW to prepare it and where to send it...... :)

IF he is NOT still with me there arre still 2 here, when they quit swimning they can head to you too..... Any way I can help with what you're doing - just ask - would LOVE to help.

That would be PERFECT actually. I've been pulling strings lately in order to attempt to legally acquire some to grow large enough to dissect. This would save me a bit of trouble! Plus, having a fish from that same fateful import batch all those years ago that sparked all of this as the holotype of (if I'm right) a new species holds a certain romance for me. I'm still a few months and quite a bit of networking away from this, but the wheels are turning.

If you're willing to send me that fish, it could single handedly make this endeavor possible.

Rob, YOU are the one responsible for sparking enough interest in these fish for me to try one after many years of keeping fish.

YOUR dedication to this hobby is rediculous and IF I have gas I can dump on your project I WILL stop at nothing to help stoke that fire.

I'm under the impression that freezing screws up stuff, so lately we've been using Formalin to "suspend" the rays we send in for necropsy. This is why I asked HOW you would like the next fish preserved. I still have 2 monster sized Tanzies here. Its only a matter of time before one ends up in your possesion. IF we plan ahead properly you'll have 2 perfectly preserved speciemens and possibly a frozen one that could be sent as early as next week as soon as I chip through the freezer and verify he's still here......
