Thanks Matt. He changes so much under the different lighting variations in the tanks and depending on his mood so his pictures often look different, but he's always fun to watch.
Well, the two Red Head Severum you see in my Avatar finally laid their first batch of eggs for me today and they are tons of them. I could not figure out why there were no fish in 1/3 of the tank, and then I saw how dark they were. They have absolutely covered a medium size rock with eggs. The also seemed to pick the same spot some of my Wild Caught Peruvian Scalare Angels had been defending for a while.
My Plan was to switch them into the 90 Gallon where my two Red Severum Males are, and put the males in the big tank, but waited too long.
So we will see if they can defend off the hordes of other fish in the tank. If I get the other fish sold in the 90, then maybe I can switch the rock and the parents before the eggs hatch.
Wish me luck. I will try to get some pics, but the glass is dirty near them and the rock is in a shadow.
I messaged the woman who wants the remaining fish in the 90 and she is going to try to come by tomorrow. I don't really have a way to put a divider in the big tank. It is Euro braced, and is 24" front to back and 31" high and is the main display tank in the house. So I also do not really want to look at the divider either.
Hopefully I can pull the red heads when they are holding and looking for a new place to put their fry. With any luck I can get them switched in time. If not, they will have their own tank so hopefully I can get a spawn again in a few weeks. There are a few corys and a very small loach I am thinking of leaving in there. The Vampire Pleco will go to the big tank with the red sevs. Man I am excited. I hope the red sevs integrate into the big tank OK.
Man I hope this works out for you - those are some stunning fish. Where did you get them from? I have a decent male but can't seem to find a mate for him.
If I'm not mistaken they don't "hold". You can get the wrigglers out as soon as they hatch.

Moving the eggs or fry with the parents is not going to work. They will stress and eat them. Just wait until they are wigglers and vacuum them out and raise them in a small tank on there own. Move the pair to the 90g alone and let them spawn again. Your pair is very nice and I think it would be well worth your time to get a small tank going ASAP to move the fry to and raise them without the parents.
Also be ready for some trouble when you move the pair to a smaller tank. The males often will want to breed again much quicker then the females and she is likely to take a beating with no were to go in a smaller tank and no other tankmates to distract the male. Have some eggcrate for a divider ready.
I bought a severum as a lark cause he looked like a cute baby and never really paid him much mind as I threw him in the 180 where he was totallly freaked out by the fish he was with and would always hide and never come out even though they would not touch him. He only came out to snipe at food and then back to hiding
Well today I got a look at him and it is starting to look good I will take a few pics of him later. On the same note the other nite the petcetera here gave me 5 gold severum babies for free to replace the baby giant gourami that I got from them I have one pic of one of them I will also take a few pics when I get home
