I moved my H. severus into the 150 gallon from quarantine. This is the fish that I got from Joel (Sencion88). I can't tell you how much I love this fish. It instantly tried to establish itself as the alpha in the tank but my festivums were not having any of that. The severum has since backed off and mellowed out quite a bit.

You can see how my male rotkeil is coloring up in the background. He was sold to me as 'red spot Tapajos' but I think it's pretty clear he's a rotkeil.

The H. severus has a very orange chest. It's actually a brighter, more vibrant orange than the burnt orange color that my Uaru sp. orange show.

Looks great Ryan! I regret selling my breeding pair now :( Do you have just one? These guys are mouth brooders and it's a lot of fun watching them in action.

Hands down my fav fish to keep...actually going to Philly today to look at some new additions.

Our big Boy...

Is the fish a confirmed female (did you ever have her lay eggs?) or was it just a guess? I'd love to find her a mate but I'd hate to ask Rapps for a male and then find out I had two males.

The rotkeil is finally starting to color up. I think he's pretty far behind on growth. He came to me at about 1" in January of this year and he's only maybe 5" now. I don't want to say he's stunted because he continues to grow and change colors, it's just slooooooooooowly.

I picked up a new severum today! I really didn't have room for him but I couldn't resist. I think it's a turquoise severum. It came from an outdoor vat at a local cichlid dealer. He'd been roughed up by some of the other fish in his vat (he was with oscars and I think some other CAs) but he should heal up fairly nicely. I picked him up and checked him out in the sunlight; he had nice black spotting on his sides and pretty blue on his face. Pictures when he settles in a bit.

here a wild green severum that is at my lfs today he is cool.

Maybe we need a thread just for H. notatus? I never know where to post pictures of my kids.

Here they were when I got them from Jeff a month ago. They were probably barely an inch long then.

I love these little guys. I'm so excited to see the black spots coming out so early.

i got two as well and one is very light with mostly no barring and the other has super dark barring and red eyes. makes me feel like they are different species. Im real excited to see these notatus grow.
