Wow never thought of that. I like the crystal lagoon look in the centre.
Thanks. My original idea was to do what you see now, and add a thin layer of substrate (of some kind), to give the tank "levels". Well, when I did the first step, I stepped back and said "Damn, that's actually not too bad!"

When I'm in p***o this weekend, if I see anything that I think will look better than 'average', I'll get it. Right now, waking up, walking out of my room, and looking at it the way it looks now is working pretty well for me.

Wont be like that long with a sev ;)
We'll see. lol

She is pretty well fed. She eats plenty. ;)

*fingers still crossed*

Yes, I think a layered effect would be nice, bet would cost a bit in substrate. Have rocks to make up layers, and pile sand behind them, and continue up. You could probably do a DIY back ground job like that.

Hope it works out for you.

Sevs can be kept with plants. I'm having good results with Amazon sword and Vallisneri. Although they get nipped at, they seem to be growing fine.

One thing to try is some floating plants like duck weed. Your sev will appreciate the greens, and hopefully leave your prize plants alone.

How many Watts you running over that tank? And what size is it? Nice to see a tank a decent size, allowing for adult growth.

Chances are though, as soon as your sev gets some size on her, she'll fill in the "lagoon" ;) they love a good sand pit.

Thanks for the tip... I'll see if I can work that out.

The wattage is a little on the low side, with a standard All Glass Aquarium 17w aquarium bulb (I'll take care of that soon, though). The tank intself is pretty small too, being a 40g breeder (36x18x16). The severum is only a little over/under 2". Only two types of live plants are in right now, the tall, slender ones that are upfront are Argentine Sword, and the small dwarf, grass-type plant to the left of them, the Kyoto.

This weekend i'm going to add a couple more fish, depending on what they are. Most likely something for dithers. Unless I see another 'personality' fish I think would work. :D

Yeah, that I think will be inevitable. I thought of doing that first by putting a thin layer of sand to cover the glass, and to get that two-layer effect I was going for. Again, we'll see.

Thanks for the comments. :)

I've been thinking about just putting some kind of tall driftwood centerpiece in the center of the lagoon, while keeping it bare -- as much as I can. I think that would be a good way to go.
