That's what I thought sandtiger. Did you collect it yourself? Glad to see some people are keeping some natives. I kept 6 longear sunfish in a 75g for about 3 years that I caught fishing. Very under appreciated. How does it get along with you SA/CA's? I never tried mixing them. Is your catfish a channel or a bullhead? Looks like a channel, but can't really tell. Post us some full tank shots please!!!

I collected the green about three years ago via hook and line, she is very passive and get along great with the other fishes. The catfish is a brown bullhead. Native fishes are my specialty, I have dozens of species (including the rock bass in my avatar) mostly sunfishes but also various cyprinids and others. I agree, they are greatly under appreciated. I'll post some full tank shots but I gotta take some first.

That's awesome. My favorite native is spotted bass. Tons of personality, they act like a faster more aggressive oscar. Always begging for food and banging the front glass when you walk by. I've always been interested in putting a yellow bullhead in my tank but was worried about aggression. That's great that you are able to mix them with severums!!

I've never kept spotteds but I have kept largemouth, they act very much like how you describe the spotted, most of my sunfishes are the same way. Overall they are much more outgoing then most of the cichlids I've kept. They're less shy straight out of the pond than most cichlids fresh from the store. Anyway the bullhead is not aggresive at all but will eat anything that can fit in its mouth. I'm sure other individuals are aggresive but overall they seem pretty docile to me, the only way to really know is to try.

Nice Fish. Male, if your interested.

Most likely a tank bred H.Efasciatus if your interested. Not a true severum, but as near as your likely to get.

Craggy
how do you tell the sex they all look the same to me what markings do you look for?
