Thanks! This guy really takes the show in the 125g. Very pretty fish!

Against all odds, my mutt fry (well, an ever-dwindling group of them anyway) have survived a community setup. The parents must be doing a good job. You can see from dad's colors that they've lightened up a bit. Both parents were nearly completely black in the last video.

All I've been doing is blowing some decapsulated brine shrimp eggs into the swarm with some rigid airline tubing. I didn't expect them to make it past the first day free-swimming...

congrats Ryan :) Now what are you going to do with them?

Well, the honeymoon ended today. I went into the fish room and found that the male had beaten the crap out of the female. I think she was ready to spawn again and so she'd started eating the fry. There a lot less than yesterday. The male went berserk and put her in a corner on the far side of the tank. She's in with my discus right now, resting and healing. He didn't do too much damage but she definitely has scrapes and bruises.

After removing the mom, the fry came out of hiding and started to explore the tank. Bad news for the other couple of fish in the tank. Dad went on the warpath again and started beating the crap out of everyone that ventured too close.

I had to set up a 20 gallon for the fry. There are only about 12 left but they've done so well that I felt I needed to try and save them. I haven't even been trying with them and already they've grown a ton.

Dad's calmed down. He ate dinner and his colors went back to normal. The other fish have moved into his territory and he hasn't attacked them. He needs to have some R&R time before I reintroduce the female.

Nice severums guys!!!

try a breeder net - easiest way to raise fry imo

just make sure other fish won't be able to kill the fry through the net.

bit of bizarre behaviour with my severums i was wondering if anyone could explain,

i moved my 7 green severums and red spotted severum into a new 400 litre tank on saturday, most of the greens range from 3.5-4.0 inches with 2 being a bit bigger at 4.5-5.0, the bigger two being the most aggressive and the red spotted is about 8".

On the day i moved them i saw a tiny "green" in the LFS and he was all alone and really really dark coloured (unlike my other greens) so i bought him and put him in, he must only be about 1-1.5" at very very most, he is the same colour as the ones in the video on this page, with very red eyes and a very orange belly and ventral fins.

I kind of expected the baby to get bullied a bit but quite the contrary!the two bigger male greens have been displaying to him, and he (the baby) has been attacking all of the other green severums even though they are much much bigger than him!He and the biggest male have been attacking all the other greens and i was wondering is this normal?could the 5" green possibly be trying to pair off with a 1" green or is there some other complex form of behaviour going on here?

thanks
