bit of bizarre behaviour with my severums i was wondering if anyone could explain,

i moved my 7 green severums and red spotted severum into a new 400 litre tank on saturday, most of the greens range from 3.5-4.0 inches with 2 being a bit bigger at 4.5-5.0, the bigger two being the most aggressive and the red spotted is about 8".

On the day i moved them i saw a tiny "green" in the LFS and he was all alone and really really dark coloured (unlike my other greens) so i bought him and put him in, he must only be about 1-1.5" at very very most, he is the same colour as the ones in the video on this page, with very red eyes and a very orange belly and ventral fins.

I kind of expected the baby to get bullied a bit but quite the contrary!the two bigger male greens have been displaying to him, and he (the baby) has been attacking all of the other green severums even though they are much much bigger than him!He and the biggest male have been attacking all the other greens and i was wondering is this normal?could the 5" green possibly be trying to pair off with a 1" green or is there some other complex form of behaviour going on here?

thanks

This thread is for a few of us to drool over "all things Heros". If you want to get good focused advice I would start a new thread outside the media lounge. Your questions will just quickly get burried in here and others could benifit from reading your thread in the future if searched for without having to dig through countless pages of this thread. ;)

Wow, I have 2 Gold Severums. They were the first fish in my monster tank. I got them both at 3"+, now the largest one(Alpha Male, very obvious)is 5"... The other one I forgotten the measurement and it is very shy.. Will upload photos soon...

It's been a long while since I've posted in this section... I figured I'd show some pics of my Severum again, now that he's a bit bigger:

Here's the tank:

Thanks. I'll try to get a couple pictures with some better lighting. He doesn't always look so dark.

I saved 11 of the severum fry that hatched in my quarantine tank. They're 2.5 weeks free-swimming. They grow up so fast, lol.

One day I'll get a nice camera with a good macro setting. Until then, blurry shots will have to do. These guys get a 90% water change everyday and are eating decapsulated brine shrimp. They've rounded out a bit and the dorsal fins are clearly visible now. Some have black-edged fins with bars and others look gold, but neither of the parents are gold. Maybe they each had a recessive gene? Or maybe they're just light colored and the others are darker.

jworth, our notatus look identical. They're going to be really handsome as adults. They have great shape, finnage, and spotting for such young fish. I'm excited to see how they grow out.
