I know there's atleast a couple people on here with A. Macracanthum

I'm curious to see what yours look like. I have never owned or know of a fish that changes colors as much as this fish does. Purple, blue, green, white, grey, black. It's all in there, several times a day!

So post pictures of yours, and approx. sizes!

Appreciate it

Lol, hadnt even thought about that. Haha

Would really love to compare pictures of this rare species. Hard to find alot about them.

To get the ball rolling here's a picture of mine to get us started:

Yes i know where you can get as many as you would want. You would have to buy a plane ticket for Denmark though, and get some import licenses :D

Oh yes, they change the entire base color between, grey, white, black. And on top of that they change theire sheen from purple, green, blue etc.

A few times he has been SOLID black. And i mean solid.

Can only recommend this species. Really cool fish.

It looks like you have him in the tank with a Managuense or a Motaguense, I not sure because part of the other cichlids picture is cut off. What other cichlids is he sharing the tank with and what size tank do you have him in? How does he handle himself with other cichlids? In your opinion, can he be kept in the same tank with cichlid like Festae, Midas, Grammodes, etc... Also how much tank space do you think the Mac needs? Is a 100 gallon too small for a pair?

Honestly, my best answer is, simply think of them as Texas'. They behave very much like them ime, and theire body shape down to the last detail is exactly like that of a Texas if you ask me.
I think they should be hericthys and not amphilphus to be honest.

He's in with:
Pair of Managuense
Xiloaensis Male
Red isletas Male
Citrinellum Male
Grammodes Male
Argentea Male
Umbee Male

Only the Argentea, Midas and the managuense are adults.

They hold theire own fine, and don't require a lot of space.
