Calling umbee owners

My brother n law bought some umbee fry from " the animal guy" he's giving me a cpl once they get big enough to sex, I'm looking for advice on keeping them I have a 220 gallon tank with 1200 gph turn over pump

I have umbees. They are great fish! I recommend a 2' front to back as a long term home at a minimum. Even then they may exceed the width of the tank. Good quality water and food is all that is needed for their growth and happiness.

How big of a mouth do they get? Is rocks or river pebbles a good substrate?

There mouths are huge. Think oscar like. And strong. My 8 shredded my 10" net.

Dont put your hand in the tank lol. Do many waterchanges, feed well, and supply with plenty of room. Basically all.
