lately it seems that my silver aro has been alot more jittery and very jumpy anytime people get close to the tank. i've had her a little over a year and shes a little over a foot long. i know its in their personality to be that way but are there any effective methods to calming them? i know its different, but even the arowanas at the local aquarium seem to been unaware people are on the other side of the glass. any knowledge or experience is apreciated. thanks

I had a silver that was really calm but also got jumpy all of the sudden. What I did was turn off the lights on one side of the tank and left the other side on 24/7. It still jumped and hit the cover occasionally but the one light technique seemed to calm it down for the most part.

one of the reasons it happens like you describe it is when they start to feel overcrowded, or cornered by lack of space.

Could this be the case of yours?

You could always black out all the sides of your tank except for the viewing side of course and add some floating plants to give it cover....

In regards to what Mig shared, how big is your tank? other tankmates?

My jar started getting jumpy when my neighbors stupid idiotic kid starts banging the glass causing my jar to freak and rip his lip. So what I did was first I cursed and cussed at them then I taped cardboard to the from of my tank so my jar would use this time to heal since after ripping his lip he would freak from anything that came near her.

How big is the tank?

A little over a foot, so in 6 months your gonna have a two footer on your hands.

well guys i took your advice and moved my driftwood around a little to give my aro a little bit of defensive space and a little better room to move around and it seems to have done the trick!!! she seems much calmer than she was...4 days ago. seems to have worked now i just have to get her on pellets ha....but seriously...:nilly:
