I have two fish a peacock bass and a lima shovelnose that i believe to have the Camallanus parasite. The problem i have is with the treatment, they only eat feeders. All of the treatments include treating the food except for the levimisol witch i cant find. Should i treat the food of the feeders before i give them to them or what? Also what medication would be the best for this application? Any input would be appreciated. Thank You.

the worm is paralized by a swine drug, Levamisole HCL. finding it in the US may be difficult. vet connections work. the worm works slowly, so you don't notice the damage. local experts say it's predominant in farmed tropicals, particularly from Florida. the usual tropical fish treatments do not work on this worm. clean and vacuum after treatment as the fish passes the worm (looks like mini tubifex)

You still have two other alternatives, fenbendazole and flubendazole. Panacur or Safeguard are available containing fenbendazole for horses and dogs respectively. You might want to avoid the paste form though as it is a little trickier to measure.

I have used the safeguard for dogs before with the fenbendazole. But i dosed it with food (shrimp and bloodworms). How do i administer it to them when they only eat feeders? Feed it to the feeders first? I have looked all over for the Levamisole HCL and i cant find it anywhere. Wish i could.

You can dose fenbendazole on the water just fine.

Really i thought that the fenbendazole was harmfull when just added to the water. That would be alot easier what are the dosing instructions for doing it that way?

Go with 2 mg per liter dosage and treat for 21 days divided in 3 intervals.

Sorry to ask so many questions but i want to make sure i get this right. First the safeguard is 22.2% Fenbendazole, Does the 2mg per liter still apply. Second how do i apply it, just dissolve in the water? Finally on the 21 day divided into 3 intervals is that add every 6 days and then a day off? Thanks.

22.2% is 220 mg. I'd apply that rule. Overdosing can have side effects such as complete loss of appetite and listlessness. Dissolve in small container by shaking it. Last question, yes.

Sorry about delay of response. I had been running in and out around for my uncle's health condition.:nilly:
