I've been losing fish mysteriously lately. The last one was a boesmani rainbow. As I netted him out I saw the little red worm coming out of his anus. From what I googled I'm pretty sure it's camallanus. If so I have some ?'s.
1. Is med. food w/praziquantel a good start?

2. Are all fish suseptible(sp?) i.e. knife fish, plecos?

3. Would quickcure, aquarisol, or melafix help kill larvae in the gravel or water?

Any other tips would be awesome

Also should I do more frequent water changes during treatment? Will it help or just stress the fish?

I should also note that this is a case caught early. The rainbow I pulled had a visible worm only after dying. Another rainbow I threw out because of lack of appetite and erratic swimming (swimming in circles for like 2 days). I think the rest are fine, however I want to be sure.

Praziquantel will not kill nematodes. You need fenbendazole, flubendazole or levamisole hydrochloride for this.

Anti-Parasite Medicated Fish Food
For Internal Parasites
Aids in control of internal flagellates, trematodes, and cestodes, which includes hexamita (hole-in-the-head), spironucleus, intestinal worms, tapeworms, and nematodes, e.g. camallanus. Active Ingredients: Metronidazole 1.0%, Praziquantel 0.5%, Levamisole 0.4%

This is what I have so shouldn't it work?

Also would anything help to kill eggs if a gravid worm is expelled?

It works if your fish still has appetite otherwise you will have to dose the tank. Which of the three meds I mentioned do you have access to? Ask your nearby vets for fenbendazole.

1800petmeds has panacur c for dogs...

As long as it is in pure form, you can use it.

For now I will stick with the med. food. Everyone is still eating.
Thanks
