Hey guys I recently have gotten a Camentana pike cichlid from predatory fins, and he is gorgeous , but the issue I’m having is the lack of info I can find. All I know is the max size is 8 inches, and they are super rare and from Brazil. But my question is what color do they get, from what it looks like I’m thinking red but idk? And also any tanks mates that are compatabile? Also what is their lifespan I’m assuming 10 plus years. But idk? those are the three main questions, also any other a info is much appreciated, I like that they are rare, but with that came a lack of info so please help.

thank you,
stephen

So little seems to be generally known about camentana pikes (sic., C. cametana) that it would be worthwhile to post pictures of your newly acquired specimen.
It would be helpful and instructive to all (+ you can brag some). Particularly if it is young, it would help learning color changes through life in these supercool fish. Thanks and congrats!

C. cametana is generally black and will have red on the back edge of the dorsal fin. They have an average length snout but with noticeably thick/fat lips. They are mean! These are often exported/imported as cametana but end up being C. cyclostoma which is slightly more colorful and can be distinguished from cametana by its short and wide snout. Or, often these two species come in mixed together as the same species under the name cametana and need to be sorted upon arrival and we end up with a few of each species.
I offer both several times a year with one currently on hand actually. Both are low demanding, cooler temp predators that stay relatively small/ medium sized.

Ok thank you very much for that info I have two more questions, you said cooler temps what should I be keeping him at I have him at 78 currently, also should I put pvc in the tank? Also can you send me pictures of the two you mentioned get mixed up? And also do you want a pic of mine? And one more thing what would be the final tank size yoh would reccomend?

quick correction which I made right as you were replying. I meant they are often mixed with cyclostoma.. not multifasciata. lol I just billed someone for a mult and had it in my head as I was typing.
76-78 is fine. they are a fast flowing riverine species so the water temp is cooler than what most think. keep in mind the air is warm but the water is often fast and cool. pipes would be highly recommended. Post a photo of it and we can get a better ID. :)
below are some photos. note the snout and lips.
