For a day trip bag I use a Tamrac 7x. It all really depends on how much gear you want to be caring around with you.

Nice added feature it has is that it opens away from your body so you can get your camera out easier.

i am just going to bring an slr (body and one lens) and like 1 normal compact digital camera and some extra batteries and SD cards. nothing really more than that... in the future when i get more lenses, expansion will be a priority as well, but till then
