Looks like you had some fun. I can't wait to go out herping one of these weekends. So far the only stuff I've found around my house were a few toads, lots of Red-back salamanders and one fat garter snake.

I'll be heading out there this weekend. Never been out there before. Do you have directions once in town local. My wife teaches at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale on weekends. So while she is teaching, I would like to walk the road.

On Route 3 are the roads that lead you to the Snake Road. The Levee road takes you to the north entrance and another road (right by a yellow-building with a church sign in front) takes you to the south end.

From the north, you would get to Route 3 via highway 13. From the south, you would be turning off from 146.

Went out there and walked snake road. I saw several frogs, but no snakes. I kept to the road as I had my 4 and 6 year old daughters with me. My 6 year old was almost in tears since she is afraid of snakes. My 4 year old was upset since she loves snakes and didn't see any.

What time of day did you go? Generally between 8-10am is the best time because thats when all the snakes come out to bask in the morning sun after bring cold during the night. After that, it just gets too hot and they all hide, although occasionally you can get lucky.

cool herps and are those ringneck snakes if so cool
Its weird how where I live up in canada on an island we have queit a few herps we have redbelly snake, ringneck snake, smooth green snake, maritime garter snake and ribbon garter snakes then we have like 5 salimanders/newts and a couple frogs the frogs are the bullfrog, leopard frog, american toad, a weird type of wood frog you can freeze! and it will come back to life and then we have our little spring peepers which are little treefrogs!
