Can 2 Aros live together?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
usually not very well. I've seen pairs, but it's pretty uncommon. Unless it's a freakishly large tank I wouldnt try it.

Maybe when they are small it might be ok, but as they grew they will become agressive. I think its safe if you add another one (a total of 3 arows all in all).

I think a 180 is too small for 3 aros:( .

Nope, not a sivler and a black either. (more than likely)

I have tried all the combos stated ^. I now have a total of 2 blacks & 6 silvers in a 150g growout. Once thay get big enough thay are going into my pond.

Whwn I first introduced them into the tank, there was some fighting. As time went on they all calmed down a bit.

I began with 3 silvers at 4 inches. They are now around 10 inches, but one was chased outa the tank a few days ago, now I have 2 that seme to be getting on quite well as of right now. The tank is 430g.

i have 2 aros living together for over a year. just now starting to see agression from my smaller aro at 18", i introducted them when he smaller was 6" and the bigger was 16". i am adding a 3rd to the tank to reduce agression but the agression hasn't been as noticible as it was a few weeks ago. there was zero agression til just last month.

2's company, 3's a crowd. Supposedly, if 3 or more aro's are together, aggression is minimized. I guess its because there are so many, they can't tell each other apart.:grinno:

I don't know about your area LFS, but the ones in my area usually have anywhere from 3-8 aro's in a tank, size is about 300g maybe, and all the fishes look good. No frayed fins or any visible bruises on the body. I asked the owner about the aro's fighting, and he said if you have 2, the probablity is much higher, but with mulitple aro's its very minimal. Also adding BW extract helps to calm everyone down.

One thing that still perplexes me is that he had 3 jars in a 250g tank with some GT's and all the fishes looked mint. The jars were around 16", the smallest one about 11-12" and none of the other fishes bugged him.

So it makes one wonder about how so many are negative about keeping aro's in a same tank, especially the jars. I guess its all a hit and miss thing, but is one willing to try?:naughty:

Also, back over a decade I had a silver with a jar and they didn't fight or anything. I know I posted the pics up around here somewhere. I had the jar first, and bought the silver 2 months later. Both were relatively small at the time, but the silver grew a lot faster than the jar did.
