What you perceive as snuggling is likely a dominance display by one of the fish by shadowing the other.

Mine did the same thing for a day or so when I added a smaller spotted gar in with my florida gar. They get along great...

Gar are a scooling fish....one of the best in fact lol....i think im up to 17 together? and another small group of 8 or so. Stack em up! the more the better. Its pretty amazing to see a pack of them in captivity.

nice group, what size and species are you keeping? also, gars aren't a schooling fish, they are a shoaling fish at best :) --

Thanks for all the info!! i was just worried because My Florida gar is the Dominate species in the tank lol he owns the top of the water and pretty much anywhere he swims, everything is moving away from him. But he does not bite other fish he swims swiftly through the water, Amazing fish gotta say Gars are my all time favorite Freshwater fish

I just ordered my second Florida Gar. My first is in a 120 gallon with a few bass, a bull head cat fish and some turtles. My gar is prob 9inches ( as a guy I'm not the best at estimating length :). ). One of the turtles chewed on his fin on day one. But all is well now.

providing you have the space then yes
