Its not just fish size, its about what certain cichlids territorial needs are.
Consider that in nature, Cichla prefer to live in area of 30 to 50 feet in depth, and acres in square area.
Above is typical Cichla habitat, near where I live, and when an even 300 gal tank is compared, it is a puddle or even a drop in the bucket
