caught some more red breasts today, and now have a total of 3 of them in my 75 gal tank. 2 are males for sure but the 3rd looks like a possible female. Will they be fine in a 75 gallon? I have 2 pumpkinseed sunfish in there with them currently, is that too much for my tank? Red breasts are my favorite, so if i should remove some of the p.seeds to a diff tank i can.

Nah - you should be fine. It is best to either crowd the hell of those big Lepomis, or only have a couple (depending on tank size). Just keep an eye on the sexes and aggression. It may be best to have all males, or a single male and all females. What sizes are they? Any other tankmates?

the 3 red breasts range from 4-6 inches. The 2 males are a bit larger and the one that i suspect is a female is 4 inches and less colorful than the males. The other tank mates include 2 male pumpkinseed sunfish. So right now, there is only 1 female fish in the tank and its the female red breast. Should i remove her? What problems could arise if she stays in the tank?

They should be fine. Better to have several than just a couple.

The female shouldn't have any issues. At worst, they dig pits, she lays eggs in them and they keep her and the other fish away. Generally this only results in some frayed fins at the most.
When not spawning the females and males act about the same.

awesome, thank you. So the p.seeds will be alright in the tank with the red breasts? I keep up very well with my weekly water changes and tank maintenance but i just want to make sure that as they all grow larger, the bioload won't be too much on the tank. I have 2 filters, which are both Marineland Emperor 400's and when i do water changes once a week i take out about 40%-50% of the water.

I wouldnt worry about the bioload as much as the aggression. So more is better like the others suggested. I tried to keep only two leps together and the smaller one got killed. All the other times, I kept around a dozen or so together and only saw a few nipped fins. As long as they have some hides for when there is aggression you should be good to go. I would suspect that with only having a few, around that size you should see one become a dominant male and might see an increase in aggression, just keep an eye on them

I am planning to put a male redbreast with a pumpkinseed in a 29 gallon, so I'm sure it will be fine.

alright thanks everyone, I'll keep a close eye on things and after a couple weeks ill check back in on here and give a little update of how everything is working out!

29 is too small for both sunfish when fully grown!

Yeah - just going ahead and saying redbreast and pseed in a 29 is going to last a few months at best. They don't even have to be full grown, once they hit about 4 inches all hell is gonna break loose.
