actually, the bichir ended up being only 7 inches and it is an ornate. They have been together since 7/27.
My issue is getting food down to the bichir before the oscar and other fish get to it. I have been successful with frozen blood worms and live tubifex worms, but only when i distract the other fish with floating food and i dump a huge load of worms in and cross my fingers. He was eating sinking pellets before i got him, but he just doesn't react fast enough. I catch him sifting through the sand looking for it after it is all gone. I have also tried feeding at night, but the oscar has figured out my routine and is still awake even an hour after i shut off the lights.
I don't want to have to keep up with the live worms and even the frozen is not a guarantee he will get to it in time. Should i just keep doing what i am doing and see if his appetite picks up and he can get to the food faster when he is hungry enough?
It has only been a little over week since he has been in there.
