Thats a Festivum

Convict x Severum has been brought up in the past but it hasn't been confirmed. All we have is supossed pictures to go on and until it is 100% proven I choose to remain sceptical. Regardless if Severum could cross with Convict, it doesn't mean it can cross with Angels. It doesn't even change much for South American hybrids because the fact still remains that South American species aren't as closely related as Central American species are. So its possible that a few species are capable of hybridization outside their genus but even if thats true the majority of them are not.

I was just given a beautiful large male angel and i have a female severum in my planted i was wondering if they might ever cross maybe her eggs his gamy.I have heard of this before but no solid proof i will not raise the fry if they did just wondering. i do not wanna hear i have seen one i want a link to a pic or video

Why wouldn't you raise the fry? Are hybrids so bad that they get auto death?

I refuse to allow two of my favorite fish types breed and make a hybrid that might look like a angel or sev and be sold as pure eventually so yeah they do get auto death. If you have ever seen either of the two as adults you would know that body shape would really affect the organs of the fry.Why are you gonna get on my thread...too cause problems?I did not ask if that was okay so i do not care if you think it is.

The above link is and interesting read. While some fish readily hybridize others do not or can not. I believe Heros, Pterophyllum and Mesonauta while one can see the external similarities due to a common ancestor in the distant past have diverged sufficiently and can not hybridize.

The proto-species was most likely a Festavum looking fish with Heros, Peterophyllum, mesonauta et others following a separate evolutionary path. You can see the resemblance between the Festavum and P. Liopoldii as an example of the evolutionary progression into the Altum and Sclare.
