there's no worry about breaking the bond. when my pair spawns i take out the one that gets kicked out of the territory. one time i took out my female as the male was the aggressor, she was placed in a tank with mostly full grown cons and some other cichlids. a month passed and i haven't put her back with the male and she spawned with another con. fast forward to now i put her back with her original mate and they spawned together again.

So if the male kicks the female out the male will take care of the fry? what if you jus take the male out will the female go back to the fry and take care? what if you take all the fry out will there be no aggresssion anymore?

to answer second question, female is hiding on the other side of the tank, not damaged or anything. she is just hiding comes out when feeding time.

Both sexes of convicts are pretty good parents, but some of the other species the female will eat the fry or the eggs. The Male is doing his job. Once the babies get out and about and swimming they will pair up again. It is nearly impossible to keep convicts from pairing up.
I had a pair on a 125g and they had babies, most were eaten but about 6 made it. The dominant male of the babies grew like a beast, so fast that he surpased the size of the father and then he paired up with the mom. I know, kinda sick but he was a great fish so I got rid of all of the con's and just kept him so I didnt have a bunch of mutant convicts.
