Yes.Here is a pic from one that was for sale near me not long ago.Makes for an ugly fish IMO

Are you saying that fish is a hybrid? There is nothing in that photo that looks anything other than a cuban. It may have a melanistic issue on it's back half, but I don't think it's a hybrid.

So the seller claimed. It is very different from every cuban I have ever seen over here so I don't doubt the seller at all but you're welcome to your opinion.:)

Please enlighten me as to what keys you off that it's a hybrid.

If I type Nandopsis tetracanthus into Google images I get a lot of photos that look like the fish posted. Cuban images

The only thing that doesn't appear "cuban" like is the black back half, which is a fairly common genetic defect in the overproduction of melanin. There are strains of angels and discus with this mutation.

I'm not trying to be condescending, I've never owned a cuban personally and would really like to know why people think it's a hybrid (and an ugly one at that).

You think it is a good looking Cuban??? I have seen millions, and it is either a hybrid, or just plain fugly....What is the big deal? Maybe it is 100% Cuban with malinistic posterior, but to me it is just unattractive...I'm not knocking anything I don't think...

Yes there is many similarities to the ones in your link.I would expect there to be.Though the washed out pattern and color of this guy is very different IMO .I also find the mouth a little off.
This same seller was selling Jags and other fish as well as this guy.The fact that he was honest enough to list it as a X and not describe it like you have also assures me he was being honest. Please, remember that you are only looking at one pic Modest_man and a poor one at that.:)

You're right, it is just one photo, and not a good one at that.

I'd much rather have someone label a pure fish a hybrid than vice-versa. :D

Definitely:)

I have to agree with Modest Man, It looks like a not so good looking cuban, pure.
But back to the topic, I'm sure the jag and cuban would have no problem getting it on. Its up to you if thats something you want to do. Might look interesting if you get a proper mix of the two, but I think that topic might be better in the hybrid sect.
