Can a male convict-type breed with multiple females?

My male Honduran red point is in a tank with 3 females and he literally flirts with all 3. One of them has laid eggs in a cave, and the other 2 have their own caves and have dug the sand out of them and their colors are super bright. He flirts with them, but the females fight each other if they get too close. Has anyone else ever experienced this before?

Tbh never kept the HRP but have read that the Convict Cichlid will breed with multiple females.

The 2nd female has her egg tube out and dug a hole in front of the cave. The 1st female’s fry are soon to be free swimming, and the 3rd female is waiting her turn I guess lol.

A friend of mine had a group of oscars who bred multiple times
Though whether it was the same breeding pair not sure but I don't think so

I see this more frequently in actual cryptoheros, but it is not unheard of for amatitlania.

This is the male that they’re trying to breed with. He’s usually a bright green but sometimes he loses his stripes and turns a little blue.

Very nice. I wonder why it is that convict types start to slim down the longer you have them. My female Rio mongo is perfectly healthy but is now shaped like a nail clipper after 7 months of having her. My TUIC male HRP was also a bit thicker when I first got him. The most significant was my male Rio bagaces, he looked like an amphilophus when I got him but slimmed to well, look like a normal convict.

That TUIC male you have is super nice. It’s crazy because when you first got him he looked nothing like that from the picture you posted. But colored up and slimmed down over time. Mine from TUIC didn’t have as much color as yours.

Sometimes cichlids do change their colours slightly when breeding
