You have to recognize that by and large a hallmark of Central American cichlids is that they are very very well equipped at handling competition for breeding/rearing habitat and they are highly adept at handling lone predators of essentially any size that doesn’t pose a direct threat of eating the parents. Roving schools of marauders are their foible and that’s why they are widely recommended as dithers. Competition or large predators becomes a target that they handle so systematically that whether it’s a dominant pair stealing fry from a small pair or a pair whacking a fish twice there size- it’s intriguing to watch until you decide to throw the towel.
