i would run a very diluted bleach water through the hose for a few minutes. like ewurm said-all fishtanks carry the ick-its just a matter as to what sets it in motion..
i have heard that a dishcloth can carry loads of bacteria , and a 5 second zap in a microwave will sterilise it , , i wonder if the microwave could be a fish keepers best friend?? for sterilising equipment

This is incorrect. Ich can only be introduced via unquarantined specimens and will not strike until they sense their hosts are actually weakening. As I understand Ewurm's post, he meant the ich tomites are just there waiting to appear once the fish weakens.
Lupin-my bad-i thought it was always present in a fishtank-just waiting for the right opportunity to strike. i also thought tomites only lived a few days-looking for hosts, and if the didnt find any they died off.
