Looks to me like its exactly what your friend told you it was, a Blood Parrot x Texas hybrid. Blood Parrots are like the convicts of the hybrid world, they will mate with anything.

If it is a texas x bp you have the starting of the red texas if it is a male ive heard they are sterile but if ir is a female try crossing it with a red devil. It looks like it has nice pearling post pics in the flower horn section in this category they will have more help than I can offer. My wife and I are trying to breed rt ourselves.
