can anyone catch a 10+ bowfin (Larger bowfin wanted)

I know fish are sold in stores this way but, does anyone see anything wrong with catching animals from there live habitat that they were born into (not raised) and putting them in a tiny glass box. For all I know some of my fish may be wild caught, but I still dont agree with this practice. Im not flaming at all I was just curious as to opinions? I thought it was illegal?
