Actually the FX5 Flow rate is 924 GPH not 600. The 600 is with media. But remember that the 900 gph for the 2262 is also without media! I've started to see more retailers advertise this for some reason that the FX5 flow rate is 600 with media but no mention of the 2262 flow rate with media. The Eheim 2262 is also a lot more expensive than the FX5.

600 with media ? Try 350 ....

Owning both filters, I would have to say they are both great filters.
The build quality of the 2262 is the best of the best for home aquariums. Eheim classic filters are great filters. The new ones are overpriced POS I would advice other enthusiats to stay clear off ! (yes I HAD a bad run with them 6 filters all had problems). They filter and flow exactly the same as the chinese brands which cost 1/5th price.

Both 2262 and fx5 filters flow about the same. They both filter the water to the same clarity a far as particles are concerned when using the same type of media. The 2262 holds more bio media and has a sight advantage in service time. (3 times a year instead of 5 for the fx5), The Fx5 has more mechanical filtration. A few things that sway me in favour of the Fx5.
1. It uses less power for the same result. I currently run 5 tanks with larger than 180 gallons, and power prices are on the rise.
2. The easy disconects make taking the filter out for a clean very easy.
3. The drain plug on the bottom of the fx5 is handy for water changes and makes servicing easy.
4. The fx5 tells me when it's time to service the filter by discharging micro bubbles.
5. Fx5 is lower in height and is good for aquariums with height restrictions underneath.
6. The fx5 output nozzle comes in handy.

Head up for Eheim 2260/62 fans .... new BASKETS for media are becoming available.

o-rly? Got a link for this?

Not yet but I just saw them in a shop in Japan ...they get all the cool stuff first.

i just got an fx5, for me i think its the best way to go. both are very good, i just have heard good things from friends about the fx5.

correct me if i'm wrong, as i do not own a 2260/2262, but, don't they also have the backwash drain at the bottom of the canister as well?

Yes, the 2250, 2260, and 2262 all have the backwash drain located at the bottom of the canister.

Taksan, I'll be keeping an eye out for the media baskets for the 2260 though I doubt I'll ever buy them new. It would make filter maintenance a bit easier for those customers that are used to media baskets/trays. Thanks for the heads up.

I think your North American models do, and I also think they come standard with the ezy connect fittings.

The models we got in Australia did not. But for additional $$$ you could buy these parts as accessories. :irked: We get duped on a lot things down under.
