Hi everyone, this is my first post so fingers x'd I've done it right..
Just bought these 2 Cichlids (see pics) as Geophagus but not sure as they're both totally different in looks and character. Pearl one is really placid and friendly, ignores other 4 tank mates and generally a really nice fish. Darkest one however is real nasty piece of work, very destructive, territorial and ate 2 of my platties her first night :irked:
They're about 5 inches long and I have them in a 5 x 2 x 2 with 2 very small angels and my one surviving Platy (at last check!).
Any help or advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your help, think I'd best take the JD back to LFS before I get attached to her and while I've still got my angels left. Can you believe I actually bought these Cichlids as a breeding pair of Geos!!. As you've probably guessed I'm quite new to Cichlids, just branching out from my usual marines and rays but learning the hard way lol.
Thanks!

yes, this can be a problem . . . one LFS near me labels all cichlids as "convicts"; the tank has held JDs, Texas, and even non-cichlids, but all it ever says is "convicts" . . . just be wary

Lol I also fell for the "they'll be fine with your other fish" line (last platy now eaten too!)
Well it's certainly been a learning curve and I won't take my LFS word as gospel in future.
BTW any good ideas what would go well with the Geo and angels in 5x2x2 once the killer fish has gone back?
Thanks again!
Dotty
