Can anyone help ID my new cichlids please .. Geophagus??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thats g. brasiliensis is a fairly boisterous and aggro fish, and grows over 12".

being a male, he will get big and be pretty mean.

every geo. bras. ive ever kept has been a beast, i wouldnt keep it with angles either.

Oh my goodness, the Geo seems such a pussycat too or maybe he's just biding his time until the killer JD has gone?? (hopefully tomorrow, snow permiting!)
Thanks Brian!

Could that Geo be a "Bahia Red"? They are basically the same as brasiliensis, but with more red in the finnage. They are still just as aggressive. My male is ok with my oscar and sev, but he killed his mate a few weeks after I got the 2 of them

yes, this can be a problem . . . one LFS near me labels all cichlids as "convicts"; the tank has held JDs, Texas, and even non-cichlids, but all it ever says is "convicts" . . . just be wary

I tend to hop on the Iphone and start surfing the internet to prove/disprove what I'm looking at when at the LFS

Had no luck catching the JD to return her to LFS, it's just never going to happen without dismantling all my cavework and she knows it (those caves took me a day and a half to build lol). Decided to move the angels to a smaller tank and see what she's like with just the Geo. Well so far she's been fairly calm in fact I may even be finally bonding with her!. Only thing is tank looks a bit empty with just the 2 fish, I know they still have some growing to do (currently around 5 inches) but wondered if anyone could recommend a similar size fish which would work ok with these two? (tank is 5x2x2)
Thanks!
