fed these to my green. he downed about 16 at one feeding (w/o head&tail ofcourse). one ring of about 180 of these critters worth less than $2. i think theyre mangrove crayfishes, im not sure though coz they looked comfortable in my brother's oscar tank until they got torn apart by the oscars. they make clicking noises with their pincers. the one in the tank gave a good fight with the oscars, before he got massacred..... average length of these mini-lobsters about 4-5 inches from tip of big claw to tail

I'm not sure of the species but, the genus is Alpheus sp. These guys are pistol shrimp. I might be able to pin down the species if you can tell me where they were caught.

mmmm...they were caught near the mouth of a slightly brackish river system in Calape, Bohol, Philippines. actually, theyre a good food source for the people in the area. i bought a lot for dinner....quite delicious

dam those r cool looking

Common name would be Pistol Shrimp. I've never heard Freshwater or Brackish Water Pistol Shrimp though...that's pretty cool.

Hook me up at that price, my puffer needs them. I cant get crayfish in Texas this time of year.

i would really love to help you bro, but im on the other side of the planet...and so are these Pistol Shrimps :D .....Philippines man!

yeah kinda saw that one too in discovery channel, though this ones are the duller-colored variety and only range in the fresh-brackish areas. the one they showed was more of a deeper salt water species. though these ones pack the same massive punch more or less
