I have asked this here before, I have him and another still awaiting a tag and a spot on the list.
I think he has gotten to age where an 95% ID is possible, lol

what do the experts think?

Its hard to tell with that pic because of the angle the fish is at. Could you get a broadside pic?

If I had to hazard a guess I would say Psuedotropheus sp. flavus. Just a guess though.

It's a bad angle for proper identification. At first glance I would assume it to be some type of Tropheops sp. but on closer inspection at the shape of the body, mouth and pattern I would hazard to say that the fish does appear to have Melanochromis "johanniii type" qualities to it.
You may not agree and very likely would not considering our history but that's my .02. ;)

Ok, Thanks Dragon Keeper and Mike, I will get a Side shot to better ID.

And
straitjacketstar, despite it all I got lots of respect for you buddy. No hard feelings please offer your .02 thats why i asked and i think you on the right track, its what I been considering, but what kind- I cant find anything with that much yellow- or that soild on the body- I see why it looks to be a trop at this angle tho...bad pic, my fualt- ill post in the AM.

Thanks everyone

Its not just the angle, for me it looks a bit dark too.Try to get a well lit pic that shows the colors and markings well. I would say some sort of mbuna though, but until the better pic comes thats the most i can say.

I will try to get a video maybe that will help best, but here are some shots- he/she kept running off on me so I chased em out with the net- So he/she is dark, but normaly its all yellow from the side fins back with 2-3 black body strips when feeling aggressive.
I know its a Mbuna and I think its a johanniii of some kind.
But maybe this will help

The "black dorsal" was one of the species I thought I might look up but it doesn't not match your fish.
Look for pictures of M. flavifemina or M. sp. "Black Dorsal Red Hood Porchi"/ M. sp. "Black Top Red Hood Porchi"/ M. sp. "Red Hood Porchi" or any combination thereof.
Even if it was female, the combination of vertical and horizontal bars makes me discount the "Black Dorsal as a possibility.
IMO the fish has some M. interruptus in it, but like most other Johannii types, is a hybrid with other similar looking Melanochromis sp.
