So I am watching the tank as I do many sleepless nights and long and behold- there is my Mr. Need An ID, and this little one....Doing the dance, Now only the moonlights were on so I used the flash with tissue so not to burn the shot and check it out color is way different- But this is what he normaly looks like just darker in the face...

thanks for the possible leads i will look into them. As for the M. interruptus, arnt they a very dark blue almost balck with a white broken strip- kinda like dashes down the side?

It sounds so Familuar- I will look that up as well.

but thanks again for the lead. This is not a fish that I have any personal history with and He/she came as a buy out of a fish room months ago. At that time he/she was maybe a 1/2" big so I been waiting to see what it is- Probly a Hy in some way but a close X would be good or at least an ID on the Domanit Gene will be nice.

Thanks for your time

It is really close, the like, i agaree but mike right the mouth is different....HUmmmm It got to be a cross of a Pseudotropheus flavus but he is not an aggresive mbuna but he is constaintly fighting the 3 Melanochromis cyaneorhabdos. So I dont know- Like I said I like to find at least the strongest Gene then I could stock him and any others crosses just as the

ID*StrongestGene "X"

two show that its a cross.

You know- either way Hyb or not, I know there not favored but He is a cool little fish so I like em cross or not.

=)
thanks for your help, maybe we could vote on the stronest gene

lol, I hear ya... I am not against them, just as long as we know that what they are and we are not spreading them... especailly under false pretense... I have been screwed before so... It is a sore spot for me...

Mike, I agree. Its how i got my first hy and my first malawis when i first stated. LOL
Which is why I try to find correct ID's, you know that- remeber the ID me you and Ikevi were up till Am for a whole weekend trying to figure..LOL

I found this and think its a pretty good match, Petrotilapia sp. "mumbo yellow"....Of course not I would still stock him as a X.

Dont want anyone to be mislead expecaily me. LOL

Females can be orangish/brown. Both have both vertical and horizontal bars, like your fish has.
As for Petro. sp. "Mumbo Yellow", the pattern may be closer but your fish does not have the characteristic Petrotilapia mouth.
I don't really see any "elongatus" types in that fish as the only thing that fish may have in common with some of them is that they may have the same brownish/yellow coloration. Most elongatus types should not have horizontal barring but P. "elongatus ornatus" is one I've seen as an exception. The elongatus ornatus may also be confused for a johannii type by unscrupulous breeders.

IMO the fish is largely johannii type.

This is great information... you have yet to fail in giving help with narrowing down the mixed IDs...

Yeah, wow. I went behind everything you said and I completely agree hands down, Will say tho after the other night- he is deffently a he- the female he was chasing has held fish food for me before. LOL

So I will stock as a Johannii "X"
