I'm pretty sure they mean two syno's
Strange how the markings/patterns on ours are very similar if not the same (I just need a better light lol ) its making me think its maybe not a hybrid and actually off the synodontis species list :D

I'm Curious when you say hybrid is it of 2 synindotis or a synindotis and another species of catfish?

Synos are not crossed outside of their genus. Now its "parents" themselves could include hybrids. No one knows but the people who (highly cruelly) make them (and IMHO pollute our hobby). Trade secret.

And if you go through the genus looking at available pics in PCF, which one(s) look similar / do you think it might be?

BTW, consistency of appearance is not an argument for genuineness. But I am not saying I am 100% sure it is a hybrid. I am close to 95% and been wrong before.

I've no idea tbh there's so many on the list lol , it just got me thinking as they were so similar in pattern that's all ;):D

Yeah, syno is a huge genus and has constantly been expanding as scientists id new species but as stated I do not readily see anything among the genuine species known in trade that look like that fish. I am still waiting for a syno head to come by.

Or, OP, you'd be well advised to post it on Planet Catfish. Chances are you will know the ID 100% no doubt and may learn more.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll sign up and post.

As a part of his PhD dissertation in ichthyology, Racoll (Rupert A. Collins) has studied DNA of many commercially available syno hybrids in an attempt to pin down their parentage. You can trust his opinion when he says hybrid #9 (same as in my first link).

Take a look at this http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=38389&p=262987 It is about the same hybrid syno as yours and has more interesting info. Rupert's looked at mitochondrial DNA of this hybrid and is sure the mother species is Synodontis decorus. To pin down the paternal side appears harder and this part he has not finished.
