I netted two of these small fish today in a slow moving section of a creek that feeds much larger creek. At first I thought they were darters or something, as they stayed on the bottom unless frightened into moving.

They are approximately 1" long, with vertical stripes.

Here are the best pictures I could get of them:

In this pictures, it is the fish in the lower right corner

Is this a type of minnow?

Thanks!

Thanks for the direction guys. I've never come across a killi before in the wild, so I did some googling. I am pretty sure what I have are banded killifish (fundulus diaphanis).

They appear to be a schooling fish, so I will see about netting a few more.

Thanks again.

Lined topminnow for sure.

The only difference I see in the Lined Top-minnow and the Banned Kilifish is the tail. The Minnow has a pointy tail where as the killifish has a more square tail. Check out this link to a Banned Killifish, http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...d3IDQ&esq=7&page=1&ndsp=29&ved=1t:429,r:9,s:0
The more square tail just like the picture that was taken of your natives.
I agree that it's probably a Banned killifish based on the tail.

What makes you say Lined Topminnow rather than a Banded Killifish?

I dont know, I was just giving more options. Now that I look at it, it is a banded killifish.
